Discernment 2

Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.” And Naaman went in and told his master, saying, “Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel.” (2 Kings 5:3-4)

Last week we looked at the story of David and His men and how David was able to discern that there was gold in this men not writing them off at first sight.

The second part is the story of Naaman, though a leper was a commander and you know what that means, he was a big man. The description the bible gives about Naaman is jaw-dropping, he was a valiant soldier with proofs and was held in high esteem but his one issue was leprousy.

His help had initially been captured by band raiders from his place, Syria and it was enough for her to be bitter that she had been taken far away from her family to come be a Mistress to Naaman’s wife but then she walks up to her madam saying only if my Oga can just go to the Prophet Elisha, I know the leprosy will be gone. I’m sure Naaman might have thought to himself that “What does this househelp know?”, “Does she know the number of physicians I have met for help?” and she says if I can just go to Israel but thank God he took the step to go by orders given to him by his master.

As if to say, he was set up for a moment to push forth for his breakthrough even in the most unlikely situations, Elisha sent a servant to him to ask him to wash in the River Jordan which makes it servant 2 helping him on his journey to healing. Being a dignitary, he thought it demeaning that the prophet would send a servant to him, worse of all ask him to go wash in the Jordan river.

At this point, he thought to himself I’m so done!!!and I’m really not interested but then his servants showed up and said to him “Oga why not do it, its not as if the prophet asked you to do something great or unbelievable”. He listened to them and that was the turning point in his life.

Notice that all of them were servants and it was easy for him to feel bossy and decide he wasn’t going to listen to them but thank God that he listened.

Here are two lessons from this, on the journey to discernment, it is very and highly important to LISTEN, first to the voice of the Holy Spirit. You must also learn to listen to the voice of the Spirit in people. Never DESPISE anyone because of the way they look or who they are or where they work or even what they earn at the moment.

There is this funny statement I keep hearing and it is that if you want to know about an organization, don’t go in search of the bosses in the organization, ask the security men, the cleaners. As funny as this statement might seem, it appears that this can be really true especially in this part of Africa.

Never despise anyone, never look down on anybody, they might have answers you have been seeking. Love people unrepentantly, this is the only way you will be able to discern accurately.

We hope this blessed you.

Discernment

In this age and time, one of the major issues we are faced with every now and then is the ability to discern by the Spirit. I would link this with discerning the people who should be in your life per time.

This will be in two parts, first to Visionary Leaders and second to every believer who wants to make a headway in fulfillment of destiny.

David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father’s household heard about it, they went down to him there.  All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their commander. About four hundred men were with him.

1 Samuel 22:1-2 is one of our favorite verses in the ministry. David was anointed King and even though the manifestation of this beautiful word that the Lord has spoken over him wasn’t there, it still didn’t change it. When He was anointed King, the next thing the Lord did after he escaped from Saul was to bring people who were in debt, discontented, people who were in trouble, facing the economic recession, had family issues and so on. Imagine if you were the one in this position, what will you do? Won’t you think the Lord is being unfair, first by allowing Saul come after your life and now bringing people who seemed like destitute to this society wanting you to be their leader.

I believe David was a discerning man, he wasn’t just looking at what they could do for him as the anointed King of Israel, he was busy surfing in his spirit how he could be a blessing to these men, he was seeing the gold in them that would wow the world. If you are a visionary leader whom the Lord has called and all you keep looking out for are ready made people, you might not be yet ready to partner with God to see him bring beauty out of nothingness in a life.

God saw you fit to lead those people you call nothing , the earlier you stay faithful with building them by the Spirit, the better for you.

See the gold in the people you are leading, Dear Leader. See the flip part and transformation that came to those who David led, many of them were the mighty men of David but not to make this post lengthy, I will put up the scripture. 2 Samuel 23:8-39.

Imagine David gave up on them at the beginning and even during the course of his journey, they made mistakes a lot of time, they acted unruly a lot of times but God gave David a heart to shepherd them, knowing that none of them must be lost because God had kept them in his care.

As a leader, call forth who God has designed them to be, sometimes in wonder that if Jesus had not called forth who Nathaniel was and had left him because he said “Can anything come out of Nazareth?’, probably brother Nathaniel would have been lost. (John 1:43-48).

Its no lie or fables that they will stress you or sometimes cause you pain. However since God has placed them in your care, be faithful in correcting them, praying, sharing the word with them and caring for their physical needs as God helps you.

Dear Visionary Leader, love the people in your care, God has given you the grace to bring out beauty from their current state of ugliness.

You are strengthened by the LORD.

We’ll continue next week!

Have a Super amazing week!

Overlooked?

So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Galatians 6:9 (The Message)

It is easy to allow offense or grow bitter when a good deed is overlooked, it is easy to make permanent verdict to never do good just because it went unnoticed or overlooked the last time we did. Thank God for Jesus who calls us to do whatever we do as unto Him and not unto man. Matthew 6:2-4

Here is a story of Mordecai who by reason of staying at the gate heard of the coup that was being plotted to assassinate the king, he then decides to let his niece Esther know of the coup that was plotted and BOOM! the king was saved from eating a meal that would have cost him his life.

However, it feels like no accolade or even party was thrown in honour of Mordecai, everyone kept talking about how the king would have died but never mentioned the person who saved his life. Maybe Mordecai was hurt, maybe he was never hurt, maybe he just believed he did it for God, maybe something else was on His mind… Esther 2:21-23

Fast forward to later in life, the chronicles was visited by the same king because God nudged His heart and wouldn’t allow him rest until he honoured Mordecai. Esther 6

It only tells us that what is most times overlooked by men is not overlooked by God which is why Galatians 6:9 tells us not to be weary in well doing for in due season we’d reap if we do not faint.

We hope this encourages a number of us who feel overlooked or feel every good deed we have done overlooked, God keeps records and everything we do must be from a heart that yearns to please Him and not from a heart that yearns to please men.

The Lord keep your heart and may you do things to please Him alone.
